NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
Church Workday— October 24, 9:00am–noon. Our vestry and admin offices are moving to open up a third children’s classroom, and we need help to move furniture to new spaces or an outside dumpster. Also, gardeners, if you’re not so much “into” schlepping stuff to the dumpster, we will put the pollinator garden to bed for the winter. It should take an hour or less to cut back dead foliage and thin the crops. The garden has thrived in its first year, with plants to be given away to anyone who wants them.
October Vestry Meeting—Sunday, October 25, following worship.
Election Day: Tuesday, November 3
Christians in many countries in this world are oppressed and persecuted. They suffer under governments that they are powerless to change and governments that hate their faith and silence their voices. These believers preach the gospel at the risk of their own lives. In our country Christians are blessed with the right to speak about and choose their leaders without fearing for themselves or their families, however, in recent elections only about 2 of every 5 of self-professed Christians took that right for granted and did not vote.
In our day, there are many who want to drive the name and message of Christ completely from the public square. Voting is an opportunity to promote, protect, and preserve godly government. The leaders we elect—or do nothing to remove—have great influence on our freedoms. They can choose to protect our first amendment right to religious freedom and the right to spread the gospel, or they can restrict those rights. They can lead our nation toward righteousness or toward moral peril. As Christians, we should follow our command to fulfill our civic duties… to render unto Caesar (Matthew 22:21).
