Trinity Sunday
Trinity Sunday
Those of us of a certain age—and who also liked Led Zeppelin—will remember Larry Norman. He’s considered a pioneer of “Christian rock” music and released more than 100 albums during his career. A lyric from one of his songs I still remember almost five decades later goes like this, “The Beatles said all you need is love. Then they broke up.”
It’s true. Though it’s difficult to maintain—and we really struggle to get it right—love is the thing we all know we need. In fact, we’re literally made for love because we’re created in the image of a God who is love.
But “God is love” makes sense only if God is Trinity.
A solitary God cannot be love. He may yearn for love. He may even learn to love. But he cannot himself be love, since love requires an object. It requires relationship. It requires community.
And this has an implication or two for our lives together. I look forward to exploring this with you Sunday.
BTW, we will also sing a new (to us) song in our worship this week. You can listen to “Revelation Song” here.

Membership Sundays—June 29 and August 31
The whole point of the Church is to bring the kingdom of God into the wider world. It exists for the tasks of witnessing to God’s saving, sovereign lordship over the world in whatever sphere it happens to inhabit. So, formal church membership isn’t checking a box or an end in itself. It’s making sure that we are working together in doing these things rather than just being a loose, vague convocation of people who happen to drift together some Sundays.
Membership is primarily about mission and vision.
It’s also about taking responsibility—with the rest of the community—for the maintenance of the building, serving, the funding of ministries and salaries, ensuring that our ministries of benevolence to our neighbors are being generously and sacrificially carried out, and much more.
If you’re interested in finding out more about membership at Redeemer, email Steve Wishart here, or write “member” on a Connection Card this Sunday and place it in the Offering. We will be in touch.
