Either/Or Brains, Both/And Gospel
Either/Or Brains, Both/And Gospel
A few weeks ago a perplexed and frustrated friend asked rhetorically, “Wouldn’t life be simpler if people were simply either good guys or bad guys?” I had to agree. It would.
Either/Or creates far less complexity and tension than Both/And. And our lazy brains don’t like complexity or tension.
When it comes to what salvation means, some Christians would say, “It’s about saving souls”. Others insist, “It’s about making life on earth better”. Practically speaking, it’s Either/Or.
But the readings for The Third Sunday of Advent would insist it’s not as simple as Either/Or would suggest…it’s Both/And.
See you Sunday.

Winter Relief
Winter Relief has operated as an all-volunteer seasonal shelter since 1992. Hosted at different Anne Arundel County churches each week from late October through April, the shelter is refuge for those experiencing homelessness during the coldest months of the year. Each church provides services, meals, and comfort to the guests during their designated week.
Redeemer will take responsibility for staffing one evening and overnight at Cape St. Claire UMC, Wednesday, January 10, 2024. We’re in need of volunteers to prepare and serve dinner or breakfast, prepare bagged lunches, host overnight, do 1-2 loads of laundry, and more. Interested in serving? Email Doug Gillikin (cdgcdg2@icloud.com) or see what’s available and sigh up here.
The Big Green Book: If you haven’t yet signed it but still desire to become an Active Member of the Redeemer community, it will be available on the table in the lobby after worship Sunday.
