All Saints
All Saints
All Saints’ Day (tomorrow, November 1st) is one of the major feasts in the liturgical calendar. It’s a day we’re reminded that all believers in the Lord are being “sanctified” (becoming holy) and are therefore called “saints” (1 Corinthians 1:2).
Over the millennia, some disciples of the Lord have become such exemplars of faith they’ve been recognized by the Church as (upper case “S”) “Saints” and given their own feast day. But All Saints’ Day commemorates all the people of God who have no special day other than this one. They’re among the myriads of faithful, including family and friends who’ve gone before us with witness and prayers that we might come to Christ and become saints as well.
This Sunday we’ll commemorate this day and look at one saint in particular from this week’s Gospel reading who became one the day Jesus passed through Jericho. It’s a remarkable story of conversion.
See you Sunday.
