Lent is the season of 40 days leading up to Easter. It is an important time of preparation as we fast, pray, study, and reflect in preparation for the joy of Resurrection of our Lord on Easter Sunday.

Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, and Good Friday, the day of our Lord’s Crucifixion, are traditionally days of special devotion and total abstinence. Maundy Thursday is observed with rites recalling the Last Supper and betrayal at Gethsemane.
The weekdays of Lent and every Friday of the year are encouraged as days of fasting. Fasting, in addition to reduced consumption, normally also includes prayer, self-examination and acts of mercy.
Fasting should be achievable and not present too difficult of a hurdle. Some people remove richer foods from their diet, or abstain from eating meat. It is important that fasting be done in remembrance of Christ’s words:
