Jesus tells a story in this week’s Gospel reading that can seem downright contradictory to, well, everything else he taught.
It commends (not condemns) a dishonest manager and shady master. It praises shrewdness. It seems to imply that one can buy (or bribe) ones way into eternal life.
Admittedly, these details can be quite distracting to us today (and challenging to preach!).
They shouldn't, however, distract us from fundamental underlying truth about Jesus’s favorite subject…which is really the point.
See you Sunday.
